Kirk (William Shatner), McCoy (DeForest Kelley) and Spock (Leonard Nimoy)'s shore leave is cut short when the latter's half-brother - Vulcan renegade Sybok (Laurence Luckinbill) - takes several important ambassadors hostage on the planet Nimbus.
